Two Free Twitter Network Visualization Tools

Lately, my associates and I have been doing quite a bit of social network visualization research for clients, typically using raw social data and comprehensive, fee-based custom tools. While these are great for deep analysis and strategic planning, sometimes a simple free tool can do the trick if all you are looking for is quick high-level insights. I would like to point out two such tools today, both of which rely on the Twitter API.

If This Then That. When Google isn’t enough…

We all know “googling” things in 2013 is ubiquitous. Once you throw in Bing, Yahoo, and the multitude of niche search engines you get roughly 92% of the world’s on-line population of 2.3 billion people searching for things daily. That being said, search  still requires you to input a decently thought out query and fine-tune it as you go along. Yes, this is far more convenient than anything we had in the past, however with the sheer amount of things we search for, finding efficiencies in the process will be essential over the next few years.

Social Media Defined. Boring but Necessary.

Once in a while I like to go back to the basics. A while back I wrote a post clarifying the meaning of the word “marketing” and corresponding terms such as social marketing, social media marketing, and social media engagement.

The  key problem I see now is people using the broad term “social media”  when in fact  they mean either “social media tools” or “social media engagement’. Rarely do they mean both. This simple little difference is in my opinion the reason why there is such a massive social media knowledge gap in plenty of organizations. Proper context is simply lost in translation.
