Top Twitter Tools & Applications

During one of my last presentations, I noticed some of my participants frantically scribbling notes whenever I would open up my “Twitter Tools” bookmark folder in my browser as if they were some secret collection. These are all in fact, free public tools that I have simply bookmarked over time.

To prevent this scribbling from happening in the future, I figured I should share my list. It’s really nothing more than various Twitter database leveraging tools and applications, each with specific purposes. Some are great, others, not so much. At the end of the day, it depends on what it is that you are trying to do. I also have most of these on my public Twitter links page via Delicious, for those of you not into static lists.

  • Twitter Search – Basic search tool. Try the “advanced” feature.
  • TwitScoop – Real-time tag cloud of all tweets.
  • My Tweeple – Follower management tool.
  • We Follow – Self categorization of Twitter users. Great tool for finding niche audiences.
  • Tweet Reach – Quick stat tool for gauging the effectiveness of specific tweets.
  • Trendsmap – Real-time tag cloud of all tweets layered onto an interactive world map.
  • Twitalyzer – Twitter analytics for your account.
  • What the Hashtag? – A real-time database of hashtags being used on Twitter.
  • Trendistic – Twitter trend graphing tool.
  • Twitterholic – Ranking tool based on basic stats.
  • Topsy – A tweet search tool which looks into archived tweets.
  • CrowdEye – An aggregated tweet search tool with some trending analysis.
  • HootSuite -A web-based twitter client.
  • CoTweet – A web based twitter client. Makes it easy to manage multiple accounts.
  • TwitPic – Easy way to share photos via Twitter.
  • TweepML – A great way to share lists of Twitter users. Attempt to standardize.
  • TweetMeme – A Digg-like tweet ranking application.
  • Twitter Grader – Twitter analytics for your account.
  • Tweet Level – Twitter analytics/ranking for you account.
  • Twit Vid – Easy way to share videos via Twitter.
  • Klout – Comprehensive Twitter analytics for your account. One of my favourites.
  • Find Twitter User – The easiest way to find people you already know on Twitter.
  • TweetDeck Directory – A directory of Twitter users organized by category.
  • Tweet-o-meter – A neat tool showing the tweets per minute in various cities around the world.
  • Twibes – Self-organized groups of Twitter users
  • The Cadmus – A tweet relevancy filtering tool
  • Twitterfall – A real-time filtering tool
  • Tweetstats – Twitter analytics for your accoount

Additional tools I use that require an install:

  • TweetDeck –  A must-have client for any serious Twitter user. I have linked it to numerous tools above.
  • Seesmic Look – Great real-time popular tweet visualization tool. Look for more of these in the near future as visualization of data begins to take precedence.

Additional tools that aren ‘t limited to Twitter but make a whole lot of sense to use:

  • Bit.ly – My url shortener of choice. I can track the performance of every single tweet I send (with a link) in real-time.

So there you have it, my Twitter apps collection is no longer a secret. Not that it ever was…

Let me know some of your favourites that I may be missing!
