This quick post is for all of my non gadget-geek readers that likely had no idea that Apple launched the iPad today at 1PM EST. What is the iPad? There are enough search results on Google to keep you busy for a while. But before you do that, watch this video:
My big three take-aways:
- It leverages the existing Apple application platform. Basically, it has hit the ground running with 140,000 apps already developed for it.
- The iBooks store. This will kill existing e-readers unless they agree on a common platform, which likely won’t happen.
- Smart positioning. It’s not meant to replace your smartphone or your laptop. It’s a third device that effectively fills the gap in between and still manages to fit into your briefcase.

As cool as the iPad looks I can’t see myself buying one in addition to my iPhone and Macbook. And since it’s not designed to replace them I’ll be waiting…
Robin, I think they’re banking on the people that will make the leap to a third device. I could see myself leaving my laptop behind when attending meetings and conferences and only bringing a smartphone and a tablet.
Lots of of bloggers are not very happy with this new iPad.There was too much hoopla over it and alot people got turned off.You see, I for one see lots of the cool potential of the gadget. Third-party soft for doing tunes, games, newsprints and magazine and FFS books, all sorts of cool stuff, but they just didn’t really sell it right (excluding the books). It looks kinda not finished
